GVW Upgrade
We raise your vehicle's gross vehicle weight and payload with an additional axle and chassis modification.
How is a GVW upgrade carried out?
A GVW upgrade (tonnage increase) raises the vehicle's gross vehicle weight and, with it, its payload. We achieve this by fitting an additional axle.
On the Mercedes Atego 1518 the gross vehicle weight rises from 15,000 kg to 22,000 kg, and on the Isuzu NPR 3D and NQR 3D from 12,500 kg to 16,000 kg. With an additional axle, the Isuzu TORA becomes a 21-tonne vehicle.
When we upgrade the capacity of your vehicles, we promise optimum performance without compromising on our distinctively high quality.
- Original components used by the vehicle manufacturer
- Load- and speed-sensitive axle lift
- Authorised technical service tests
- Engineering documentation and TSE application

Capacity increase by vehicle.
Figures are taken from the technical specifications in our catalogues.
Atego 1518: from 15 to 22 tonnes
The Mercedes Atego 1518 additional axle conversion raises the gross vehicle weight from 15,000 kg to 22,000 kg. It includes an automatic axle lift mechanism operated by two buttons in the cab.

TORA and TORA Long: now 21 tonnes
With the Isuzu TORA additional axle conversion, the gross vehicle weight becomes 21,000 kg. The front axle is rated at 5,500 kg and the rear axles at 10,900 kg and 9,000 kg.

NPR 3D and NQR 3D: now 16 tonnes
Additional axle and axle lift for the Isuzu NPR 3D and NQR 3D: from 12,500 kg to 16,000 kg. Our additional axle uses the same bearings, hubs and calipers as the vehicle's drive axle.

Vehicles on which we carry out GVW upgrades
The GVW upgrade process: from analysis to certification.
Our processes are designed to interlock with the vehicle manufacturer's, which means maximum transparency and minimum lead time.
Market and Needs Analysis
We analyse the need against technology, market, regulatory and price criteria and define a realistic solution.
3D CAD Design
Design down to the smallest detail. Using 3D CAD speeds up the transition to series production and minimises design errors.
Risk Analysis
Sustainability, maintenance and after-sales considerations are built into the design, and risks are assessed rigorously.
Prototype and Road Testing
Our dedicated prototype team prepares the vehicle; durability and long-distance road tests are carried out with our GPS-linked test equipment.
Homologation
Tests are carried out with authorised technical services, the engineering documentation (project file) is prepared and an application for certification is submitted to TSE.
Delivery
The new configuration is programmed into the vehicle's ECU using our diagnostic equipment, and the vehicle is handed over.
GVW upgrades: frequently asked questions
If you can't find the answer you're looking for here, write to us and our technical team will get back to you.
Ask usOur main applications are the Mercedes-Benz Atego 1518 (from 15,000 kg to 22,000 kg), the Isuzu NPR 3D and NQR 3D (from 12,500 kg to 16,000 kg) and the Isuzu TORA (21 tonnes).
After the preliminary tests, the technical units affected by the modification are tested together with authorised technical services and the test reports are obtained. The engineering documentation (project file) for the vehicle is prepared and an application for certification is submitted to TSE. All of these steps are carried out by authorised in-house engineers.
On the 21-tonne Isuzu TORA, for example, the front axle is rated at 5,500 kg, the 1st rear axle at 10,900 kg and the 2nd rear axle at 9,000 kg. Contact us for figures specific to your vehicle.
